In the Minneapolis home of Judith Ranheim near Lake Nokomis, the 10:30 a.m. concert will feature pianist Matthew Harikian, flutist Claudia Schnitker, and soprano Deirdre Michael-Mechelke with flutist Betty Olson accompanied by Sarah Twedt. As a teaser, Deirdre and Betty share that they have been performing together since 2006 and have performed five programs of “Bird Songs”. Included in this program will be “The Bird Song”, composed in 2009 by Thursday Musical member and flutist Michael Davis. In this performance, Episode 6, of “Bird Songs”, Betty makes her true feelings known, and Deirdre has a confession of her own to make. Come at 10:00 a.m. to enjoy treats and coffee!
Performing at a second 10:30 a.m. concert in the Roseville home of Joni MacDonald will be Jennifer Kennard on flute, Dragan Stojkovic on violin, and mezzo soprano Mary Kirchner accompanied by Jim Reilly. Mary will be performing a light program of ten familiar songs by the prolific composer, Cole Porter. With over 1200 songs to choose from, Mary will be singing “Just One of Those Things”, “You’re the Top”, and a favorite of Queen Elizabeth, “Miss Otis Regrets,” among others. Treats and coffee will be at 10:00 a.m.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will be in the Edina home of Greg and Lisa Buck with their wonderful 9’ Steinway piano. Performing on the program will be soprano Melyssa Rice and clarinetist Ona Pinsonneault. Due to an artist cancellation, Thursday Musical will have a surprise guest artist, pianist Nachito Herrera! Originally from Cuba, Ignacio “Nachito “Herrera stunned Cuban audiences at the age of 12, performing Rachmaninoff's Concerto No 2 with the Havana Symphony Orchestra. Nachito has played at many of the world’s finest concert halls and prestigious jazz festivals. He has had many awards, including City Pages Best Jazz Artist for 4 years, Emmys, Grammys, and the Minnesota Music Awards. Now in Minnesota, Nachito has been playing with his own band, as well as with the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Youth Symphony, Metropolitan Orchestra and will be soloing with the Wayzata Community Orchestra on November 17th. Coffee and treats will be at 7:00 p.m.
