For everyone’s safety, Thursday Musical requires all audience members to wear a non-cloth mask such as a N95, KN95, KF94, or surgical mask. If needed, surgical-type masks will be available. All audience members will also need to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance.
Note: The stage at MacPhail is separated from the audience seating,
so performers may perform safely without masks.
Ford Campbell graduated from St. Olaf College with a B.M. in bassoon performance. While studying at Oxford University he played chamber and orchestral music and performed on period bassoons at the Baines Collection of Old Instruments. After studying bassoon at the University of Southern California, he performed and taught in Kingston, Jamaica, with Amabile Chamber Players. He is principal bassoonist of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and Mississippi Valley Orchestra and has performed with Kenwood Chamber Orchestra and Bill Fegan Productions Touring Company. Ford is a freelance bassoonist and accordionist in Palm Springs and Minneapolis and is a retired Minneapolis teacher.
Karen Hansen is principal clarinetist of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and Mississippi Valley Orchestra, clarinetist with the Incidental Trio and Rochester Symphony Orchestra, and a Thursday Musical Performing Artist. Her additional freelance work includes Classical MPR, Schubert Club, the Moody Blues backing orchestra, OCEAN with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, and the premieres of three operas. She teaches clarinet at Cadenza Music and is a music and arts enrichment lecturer onboard cruise ships. Karen earned her B.A. from St. Olaf College and M.A. from University of Wisconsin–Madison, and she studied music and theater in London.
Kaia Sand is principal oboist of the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra and the Mississippi Valley Orchestra and a freelance oboist and teacher in the Twin Cities area. She also teaches oboe at Cadenza Music in St. Paul and has taught oboe and reed making at youth music camps. Kaia earned her B.A. in music from Luther College and her M.M. in oboe performance from the University of Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma, she performed with the Cimarron Opera, was a regular substitute with the Norman Philharmonic, and was a substitute with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
Kristine West Denton has performed across the country, in Canada, and Germany as a soloist and collaborative pianist. She recently retired from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she taught at Grinnell College, Coe College and Fort Hays State University.
She was a frequent soloist with the Erie Philharmonic and played keyboards for the Erie Philharmonic, Erie Chamber Orchestra and the Bemus Bay Pops. She performed on live broadcasts from WKSU (Kent, OH), WCLV (Cleveland) and WQLN (Erie) in collaborative performances. She administered and performed in a free concert series at the Erie County Public Library and served on the Arts Council of Erie.
A native of Minnesota, Kristine received degrees from the University of Iowa (DMA), Kent State University, and Augsburg College (Mpls). Her principal teachers were Kenneth Amada, Margaret Baxtresser and Jim Johnson.
