Our March 25th Artist Series concert is approaching! Our program will feature Daniel Keeler, cello* accompanied by Elgin Lee, piano performing Chopin's Cello Sonata in G minor, Op 65 and Will Richardson, cello with Ian Snyder, violin and Stephen Self, piano performing Faure's Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120. Join us to enjoy some rarely performed cello repertoire.

Minnesota-born cellist Dr. Daniel Keeler is a passionate musician, educator, and composer. Praised for his "Lush" and "Energetic" playing, Daniel has performed across the United States as a soloist, orchestral, and collaborative musician. As an orchestral musician, his leadership roles span nearly a dozen orchestras at the community, collegiate, and professional levels. Accolades include appearances as a soloist with several orchestras around the Midwest, including concertos by Bloch, Dvorak, Haydn, Lalo, and Popper. As an educator, Dr. Keeler is the Instructor of Cello at the University of Minnesota -Duluth is an Orchestra Director for Mounds View Public Schools, and teaches as a private lesson instructor to students of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Additionally, he has been a guest and resident cellist for a wide variety of music festivals around the states of Minnesota and Missouri. Daniel performs on a 2017 cello by Krystian Grzybacz and a bow by Eugène Sartory, and holds degrees from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Cello Daniel Keeler 4 Performance and Pedagogy, University of Missouri-Columbia in Cello Performance, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Music Education. His primary teachers include Tanya Remenikova, Eli Lara, Betsy Husby, and John Madura.

Born and raised in Saint Paul, Elgin Lee is a pianist and musical collaborator living in the Twin Cities. From a young age, Elgin has participated in several music festivals across the states and China, and has won prizes in multiple competitions such as the YPSCA Concerto Competition and the LaCross Rising Star Competition. He is currently in the process of completing his master’s degree in Collaborative Piano at the University of Minnesota, where he enjoys learning and performing a wide variety of collaborative repertoire with an emphasis on instrumental chamber works.

Will Richardson has performed with a wide variety of classical and non-classical organizations from the Mill City Summer Opera to The Who and Weird Al Yankovic. He has been a member of the Duluth-Superior Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Owensboro Symphony, Marion Philharmonic, and the Richmond Symphony. Past solo performances include Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, and Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Cellos with the Century College Orchestra, as well as the complete cello sonatas of Bohuslav Martinů for Thursday Musical’s Artist Series Concerts. He completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where his primary teachers were Helga Winold and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. He studied baroque cello with Christine Kyprianides. A dedicated teacher, Mr. Richardson is co-founder of North Star Cello Academy located in Roseville, MN, and instructor of cello at Century College and Bethel University. His previous teaching experience includes Hamline University, St. Joseph's School of Music, and The College of Saint Benedict. He has completed Suzuki Cello Teacher training through the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Minneapolis native Ian Snyder recently completed his master's degree in violin performance at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and pursued undergraduate studies, summa cum laude, at the University of Minnesota and the Salzburg Mozarteum. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera, the Lakes Area Music Festival, the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, and the Academy Chamber Soloists in Prague. He has been engaged for solo recitals across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, as well as chamber music performances on PBS, the cultural TV series Metropol in Prague, and with principal members of the Minnesota Orchestra and SPCO. He has recorded for Prince, The Voice, and a number of Minneapolis-Saint Paul jazz artists. He has also served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota at the Bravo Institute for Piano and Strings.

Stephen Self received the M.M. degree in piano performance from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the Ph.D. in music history from The Ohio State University, and the D.M.A. in organ performance from West Virginia University. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society for Music.
