Performer Information
Will Richardson is an active freelance cellist and instructor in the Twin Cities. Aside from many varied freelance performances, he has also performed with the Mill City Summer Opera, Duluth-Superior Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Owensboro Symphony, Marion Philharmonic, and the Richmond Symphony. He was assistant principal cellist of the National Orchestral Institute and attended the Indiana University Summer Music Festival.
Mr. Richardson completed his undergraduate and performer diploma degrees at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where his primary teachers were Helga Winold and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. He studied baroque cello with Christine Kyprianides. While at Indiana University, he was awarded the Eva Heinitz Scholarship, Dean's Award, Merit Scholarship, and the Faculty Music Award.
Mr. Richardson has received Suzuki Cello Teacher training through the Suzuki Associations of the Americas and has developed his own teaching method combining the Suzuki method with a traditional pedagogical approach. His previous teaching experience includes, Hamline University, Bethel University, The College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph’s School of Music, and Ramsey International Fine Arts Center in Minneapolis. He is a co-founder and instructor at North Star Cello Academy in Roseville, MN. Mr. Richardson has served as a judge for various local and national competitions such as WAMSO Young Artist Competition and Thursday Musical Young Artist Competition.
Mr. Richardson plays a cello made by David Folland of Northfield, Minnesota. He uses bows by Roger Zabinski and Bernard Walke.
Russell Dedrick studied at the Manhattan School of Music and directed the New Music Ensemble at Mannes School of Music in New York. He played in the Orquesta del Estado de Mexico, in Toluca, Mexico, for two seasons. Locally, he has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, VocalEssence and many other orchestras and chamber music groups, including the Dedrick Flute Duo and Monarch Trio.
Polly Meyerding teaches in her home and is the Director of the Summer Flute Intensive and Fling. She has taught flute and conducted the Falcon Flute Choir at UW-River Falls. Formerly President of the Upper Midwest Flute Association, she has conducted the Honors Flute Choirs at Flute Fests.
Among other things, she has performed in festivals in Europe and played with the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Dance Theatre, and many other organizations locally. She and her husband are the Dedrick Flute Duo and play with cello as the Monarch Trio. She is also a member of the Arabesque Trio which is flute, cello and harp.
